SITE REVIEW: Maxedge Updated Feb 9!

Thanks DigitalMedia. It turned out that I needed to change it completely for it to work. Thanks anyway. Now, the only problem is, the right-border: is not working. The left one is, but the right one isn't. Anyone know why?

                                                    Maxedge is a website about a varied group of material. It's the combined interest of two guys, known online as Tazel/oatmeal.net and Dotcom9.
                                                    <br><br>
                                                    Tazel is the actual webmaster and deals with all the technical stuff including the logo, etc. He writes tutorials in the programming, web developement, and graphic design fields but you'll see an occasional article and a music piece come out of him.
                                                    <br><br>
                                                    Dotcom9 comes up with most of the artistic part of the site. He does the majority of the (creative) writing, articles, music, you get the picture. He also is into a little web developement himself and has written a couple web articles. 
                                                    <br><i>In Dotcom's Words: My job is to try to help Tazel with the programming, but I usually end up just totally messing the site up, so I just stay within my friendly confines of basic HTML and fine arts.</i>
                                                    <br><br>
                                                    The two met at a summer camp where they became good friends. They've stayed in contact for a couple years now and still continue to do so. This site is a new version you might say of a previous site, <a class=type2 href="http://12.215.144.207">MonkeyHumor</a> which was introduced after the fusion of their two personal sites <a class=type2 href="http://tcache.home.mchsi.com">tcache</a> and <a class=type2 href="http://zzone.mirrorz.com/">The Z Zone</a>,Tazel's and Dotcom9's, respectively.

                                                    I just got the logo up (finally a logo I like and one that makes sense) and put up the basic nav system. Hoping that it gets good criticsm!

                                                    w00t w00t! I got the domain name and the server (powweb) working together and sorted everything out. It's turning out to pretty cool. The color scheme and nav system are getting good criticsm which is a first in all of my years of web site development. Even the logo is getting the nice feedback. Since everything is going so well, I'm beginning to work on the php stuff. The first thing would be the form-email because the &lt;a href="mailto:maxadmin@maxedge.net"&gt; pop-up is really bugging me. I'm sure that it is bothering others. If it was me willing to send email and that kinda thing popped up, I'd forget it right on the spot. So that's what you'll first see come up.

                                                    I've succombed to phpBB because making my own forums is a good project, but in retrospect, it will take as much as up to a year! So, I'm going to work on the phpBB scheme and then put that up next.

                                                    Then, I'm going to finally start putting in the php for each page, as soon as I grasp mySQL. I've been practicing on it, but it's really getting to me and I can't get anything to work.

If you mean the border between the white and #e7e7e7 it's because this definition in your table tag: style="border-left: 1px solid #000000; border-right: 1px solid #000000;" doesn't get applied to each table cell. The center column and the right column are in the same table. When you add that definition to the table tag, it get's applied only too the outside of the table.

Your HTML has several errors in it. On line 59 for instance, you've entered a table's width attribute twice. I also believe that in HTML 4.01 align="left" is the default, and doesn't need to be cited. You've used style sheets using all 3 methods of external and inline definition.

I'm using EditPlus. Not a WYSIWYG editor. Also, the form is not displaying on the left gray area. Is there another table in the middle on the left side?

Thinks: Ohhh, I get what you're saying. I didn't know it was in the same table. Well..I moved it to that spot because on the td after I close that table tag, it never showed. That's why it's right there.

The header is nice... good logo. I dont know why but i didnt see the navigation menu for a while, it looked like a lonley page... Maybe im just slow :roll: but hey, good work! :P

Tazel: Despite the progress you've made, I think you really need to consider starting your document over. I don't know how much work you've put into this so far, but I think starting over would be more efficient that fixing the HTML line by line.

I would start with a simple table structure for your overall alignment, and do an external CSS document to manage elements within the table cells.

My other advice would be to make sure your tags get terminated correctly. Don't cite attributes that don't need to be there. Use a consistent approach to implementing style definitions. These things will make writing and troubleshooting your document faster and easier.

Media, I know. I'm not going to use that as a final draft. I was just going in the design phase. You know, just the basic idea. I wasn't going for the best code or whatever. Just write it out, tweak it, add as it is sort of thing. But since the look has been getting good critique, I'll start re-writing the code. I don't plan on making the whole code in tables. I'm going to use divs to align the top, left(black), left, center, right, and right(black) columns and then use tables within those if I need 'em. So the look is the only thing I was looking for (in critique). Guess I better get a move on then.

Well I've gotten it up with divs, but there are bugs, which I can't figure out. Take a look?

Also, is there a thing that is equal to cellpadding in a table element for css?

cellpadding equivalent, yes: You need to refere to the box model. Check this out. You're looking for "padding:;"

The site looks good so far - The only thing I can suggest is more news to fill in the big blank area & the other pages on the menu.

I'm sure you're aware of this as the site is not complete yet.

should be good though - no complaints on the layout or colors/graphics.
