Hi everybody, I recently finished my first site (for the most part). Granted there are still a few things that I need to do before I launch the site such as: finish the tutorials page and add much more content to the forums and photo gallery. When I launch the site I want it to feel like there is already a community established.
I did the design myself, although I had someone help me with the php part of the site. Hence the link at the bottom of the homepage and the questions to "erik" in the forum.

I believe my site kicks in where other DJ sites fall out. The main two DJ sites http://www.djforums.com and http://www.djsource.com.uk have really good forums but the rest of their sites lack content such as reviews and tutorials. So basically there is no DJ site out there that has equipment reviews on the scale that I have nor any video tutorials on "how to's".

I was curious if you guys could break it down into three categories for me when you critique my site:

Design/Visual Appearance
Overall Concept/Ideas
SEO performance (what can i do to make it perform better in the search engines)

Overall layout very good. Easy to get the grip.
I would try to make the main links at top clearer, maybe a hoover effect would help.
I get a space between the last two lines in the "About Official-DJ.com" box (both in MSIE and Mozilla).
Time is not showing GMT as far as I can tell !?

Design/Visual Appearance
- Very nice, amazing even.

Overall Concept/Ideas
- Good. I'm not sure how many DJ's there are out there, but this looks like the site for them.

SEO performance
- Your keywords
Quote:
DJ Forum, DJ Forums, DJ equipment, DJ review, DJ reviews, DJ tutorial, DJ tutorials

seem good enough. I'm not in the business, so I'm not exactly sure what you should be using as keywords.

EDIT:
I typed "DJ Forum" into google and the site that came up first was only 5/10PR, so you can definately surpass it.
I checked out their keywords, and they listed different kinds of music and DJ activities (I guess).
Try adding keywords like that.

And get people to visit your site. Friends, family, etc. If more people visit, It'll rise higher in google and then when people do the keyword searchm they'll actually see it.

My thoughts exactly. The buttons or links at the top navigation have a tendency to blend in with the background of the page a little bit, making it hard to read and see. My suggestion would be a hover effect as well or darker links.

Overall though, nice site, good content, and well designed I think. It looks quite nice. Good job.

Overall a decent site. It's fast loading, easy on the eyes, easy to navigate. All in all good on the user friendly level.

I do think that your text on the section "ยป About Official-DJ.com" is a little bit too small though. That's the main intro text and should be located at eye level and should be one of the first things the user sees upon entering your site. I'd put it centered and bring the font size up by 1.

I like how you're listing a few things on the front page just make sure to not add any more than there are already of your site will get too busy and too confusing for the user to find the main focal points.

Great work on making your site cross browser compliant and scalable. :)

You've got great shots of sexy Tiesto :P but be careful with copyright issues on those images! Unless of course, you took all those images yourself which I doubt? :)

Great work on the contact us section. Giving a form option rather than linking to an actual email is a very good idea considering that not everyone out there uses an email client like outlook. By using a form you're letting those users who normally use web based email clients to get in contact with you quickly.

Have you thought about linking to your style sheet externally? It would clean up your code a bit.

Don't forget the "alt" tags in your images! As many as one-third of all WWWeb-surfers will have images turned off, or will be using a text-only browser, so they won't see your images. If you don't include <IMG ALT=""> in your <IMG> tags, those readers will see "[IMAGE]" or "[INLINE]" or "[LINK]". If the image is a link, make the ALT-text a description of the destination.

The <title> tag will get used as the bookmark, when someone likes your page, so you should make it the clearest possible description of the page.

Besides that, the site seems awesome. I bookmarked it since I'm into some of those djs. Keep it up and good luck with the launch! :)

Put the navigation frame on top and save some space for the two other frames on the front page.

Im confused by the tutorials page. The items listed don't seem to link to any actual content.

I agree with the others about the blandness of the navigation bar. It seems to get lost between your ad space and main website graphic.

Yeah the tutorials page isnt finished yet. I have to finish recording the videos. I am waiting on my friend DJ D-Frag to get some free time so I can record him doing some beatmatching tutorials. (Its kinda hard to record yourself)

So you guys think that changing the color of the nav bar would be a good idea or should I just add some space to give it some room to breathe?

Needs Music and maybe a little flash to spice it up
