Hello,

I just started my site and so far traffic has been good. Please feel free to be as mean in your review as you want. I am looking for coments on anything.

Home - http://sports-facts.com

You should proboably review this page http://www.sports-facts.com/nba/players/amarestoudemire.htm because 99.99% of my pages have this format.

thanks in advance

Hi Sports-Facts,

I too own a sports website. Anway, I briefly looked at your website. Will check it out some more later.

http://sports-facts.com/links.htm
You need to fix this.........you've created basically a link farm which is against search engine rules; esp. google. They will ban your website from being listed on google.

You need to get rid of the wording at the top of the brower that reads, "link exchange." You also need to dump the categories such as Pets and Web Designing. What does either have to do with sports?

Hey,
I only had time to briefly look over it. But later when I have enough time, I will do a thorough look over it. But hey, it's looking good so far. Keep up the good work.

Nope, thats not a review.

To pick up on razsports comment. That links page has no relevence to sports anyway. I fear you would be attracting the wrong kind of people to the website by just having a link farm. I believe this is why you will be getting quite alot of traffic as well, maybe not.

Other than that link farm, i quite like the look of the site. the different tones of grey really work for me and the consistency of it is really good as well. Definatly a good template you are working with, you just need to get rid of small pointless pages such as that link farm.

Another thing you might want to watch out for is your email adress. It is very open to spam type software that searches the web. This software can detect every text that has the @ symbol and records what is before and after it. As a result the spammers then build up a database of email adresses with whatever is before and after the @ symbol therefore will result in increased spam in your email inbox. You might have noticed why some people put a space before and after the at symbol (webmaster @ example.com). I suggest you go into photoshop and create an image with the text saying your email adress and then add this to your website and make it a link to your email. This will definately cut down on any spam you might be getting in your inbox. Believe me, it dosnt take long for spam to filter into your inbox when you have an email exposed like you have on your site. Just a warning.

I really like the site though. Still looks like its in its early stages though. Good job!

Thanks to all for the reviews (especially the i Ain't keen On Nba And that Football is me.) I had no idea that putting to unrevalent could hurt your so I'll definitely only put sites that are sports related. I will get rid of the link farm asap.

Shades of gray was my idea when I built the design, thanks for the detailed review. I will look into the @ also.

Reagrding spammers reading your email address, try javascript. Have a look at

one of many out there.

i agree that the site looks OK, so i have eliminated the link page (except sports links) and have made a new header. Does it look better now?

I would have a soccer page, but most people who like soccer can't speak english, ill have to look into this.

Thanks

Hi,
Just took a look at your site. Clean design, easy to navigate. Since I'm not a sports fan I can't comment on the content... Couple of small things you might want to change though - you have many of your headings and the alpha list underlined. Since all your links are underlined one might think that the headings or alpha list could be links. Might be better to leave them off. Just a minor thing.

Other than that, I'm sure other will tell you that soccer is huge in England, Austrailia, New Zealand & many other English speaking countries... :)

Good luck,

Would you believe me if i told you that in the UK "soccer" is the largest followed sport and a large majority all speak english.

Just because Soccer isnt all that big in the USA it dosnt mean it dosnt have a large following. The USA has a large amount of population and most either go to Baseball, Football, or Hockey games. The last couple of attendance figures for one of the USA MLS (Major League Soccer) teams was 12,546*, another for a different team was 27,000**. These are pretty interesting statistics. To say that soccer is a sport followed by just non english speaking civilians then i am afraid you are really wrong..

The worst thing you could do is to assume certain things like this.

This isnt a web review, just thought i would point this out to you. Maybe being a bit ignorant isnt a good line of route to go along when making websites. Just thought i would share this feedback.

I hope you have a good christmas.

*statistic was taken from the New England Revolution 2-2 draw with Kansas City on October 9th 2005.

** Statistic was taken from the Los Angeles Galaxy's 3-1 victory over Chivas USA on April 23rd 2005.

As a sports fan I like the idea of the site.

The biggest negative that I could see was the inability to search. I would think it would be good to be able to search either a specific topic or sitewide.

Also as a sports fan I noticed that the news seemed to be a little behind. With the playoffs coming up in football real football fans are looking for the latest info on their team. Whether it is the latest injury update or simply next weeks schedule it should be addressed.

This may be beyond what your intent was.

Thanks
Ronnie

well I know soccer world wide is dominantly the favorite sports. however, i no nothing about soccer and couldn't write about it, but then again i no nothing about hockey so i will add soccer eventually.

in terms of content, yes it is very late and outdated because of lack of time and personal issues. I have convinced some friends to help out in coming weeks so i'm ready for '06.

the site was not necesserally designed for injuries/schedules (although its turining into that), more my opinions on certain events.

Thanks For All The Help

Liked the layout, then I read your first paragraph that describes your site. I thought I was a search engine when I finished reading it. Try writing a little more to users instead of robots that PR.

You can tell by the content on your index that you're more concerned about making money than you are about "sports facts". Aside from a brief introduction to you what your site is about, the rest of the main page is ads. Why dont you try putting sample content from your sections up instead of trying to sell us junk. And btw, bolding words in that opening sentence doesnt accomplish anything. Look, I can bold words too, it doesnt really mean anything though.

Forgive me for not sugar coating my next comment, but your site is useless. All of your facts, data, information, everything (other than your ads) is from Wikipedia. Why go through the middle man when I can just type in a player's name on Wikipedia and get the same information? And with no ads. Sorry, but it doesnt matter what your site looks like or what plans you have for the future, but if there's no original content, then there's no point in having a website. Again, pardon my bluntness.
