Personal Portfolio site
SwishMax/FlashMX
115Kb initial download
Still a few "Under Construction" pages.

Looking for a few thought about the general feel of the site,
colors
navigation
chat...if you didn't want to post, can the user figure out how to get past it?
Do you think I should fade the gui, while in the sign in window?

Thanks in advance.

This may suck, but I'm not a big fan of the font that your site uses. It just doesnt make the words come off very clear. Like even your logo, the B looks like an E. And the slogan "An exercise in swishmax....", you have to read very slowly. Most users will be able to read the words just fine, but if it was my site, I wouldnt make it the standard font, thats just my preference. Same thing goes with the menu font.

As far as content goes, the rest of the site seems good. In your portfolio section, you have a link to Resume. I thought it was a link to an online resume, instead its just an email to request one. Maybe you should change the link to Request Resume instead. I'm not sure about the constant background changes either. Some of them just dont come off very well, maybe try and keep it consistent for all sections. There's something thats missing though, I cant put my finger on it. Your site just seems too straight forward, there's not much that stands out. Especially for a flash site, you want to wow the user with some effects.

The last thing you want to check is your meta content/description. You have the description as movie1 and you could use some better keywords. Overall I think your site is really good, a lot of effort put into it. I guess the best advice I could give is to work on that font and try to add some more effects to it.

Fonts have always been hard for me.
Any suggetions on the font to replace what I have there?
Current font for logo, etc is Org_v01
I think I got it at http://www.fontsforflash.com/
...wanted to keep it simple...

I wasn't sure about the bg's either, but I almost like them.
I'll play around with different ones.

As to the fx's
I thought when the 3d works page was done, that would surfice...maybe...
keeping in mind download times...
I'll keep that in mind.
I thought the scrollpane mask was pretty cool.
Was going for something I've never seen before.

Thanks for the comments.
Any others?

Agreed - the font must go.

I know I am in an increasing minority, but many may still be stuck in my situation.

I have a horrible internet connection. It's not just a phone line dial-up, but the bandwidth is limited to 28k, by the phone company. I just don't have enough bandwidth to enjoy (or wait) for your presentation.

I have some larger files on my site, as well (mp3s), but I always invite people to view them, with a link. I try to keep the bandwidth limited, in order to make my major points.

What is the primary theme of your website? It's not immediately clear. Are you a flash designer, looking for work?

It's hard to believe, but many people still have their screen resolution set to 800x600. All the pages on your site need to be scrolled, in order to be viewed in that mode. There is javascript available, which you could use to test a client's screen resolution, and serve a image of proper size for that browser.

That font is horrible....sorry.

What is your site about? When I visit your site it is very hard to tell what you do there and what the site is about. The graphics etc. don't really say a lot about what you do.

I don't like the font either. The background is also a bit pixelated.

I visited the fontsforflash site, there's a lot more crisper fonts that you can use. Two that caught my attention were the Estudio and Galaxy ones, or something like those. Just pick a font thats clear and has a bit of style to it. Its just that the one you have is so obscure and hard to visualize.

And it is! Thats actually one of the first things I noticed, so dont feel that it got snubbed! When I mention effects, it more along the lines of lighting effects, fade out/in text/images and things flying here and there, just a bunch of crazy flash tricks. What you have now is great, but I guess I've seen some kick arse flash sites in my days that maybe my standards are too high! Its still a job well done, just work on that font!

Thanks for all the feed back.
You've given me tons to think about.

Of what I had on hand, I kindof liked the font,
at least in the titles. It was different, at least...
I guess a bit too different...

...I just looked at those fonts you suggested.
Not bad, really.
I'll have to experiment with them.
...and they're in the freebie bin!! All the better ;)
Need work, then could afford the whole bunch of fonts.

Just finished the 3d works page.
I think that turned out pretty well. :)

Well, I made a few changes to this thing.
I changed the font, and the orange.
Put in new buttons for the menu.
That looks better.
