Hi I am in the process of finishing up my portfolio and was looking for any problems/suggestion with my site.

Thanks.

** some of the videos in the portfolio section won't work at the moment. I am aware of this.

I think its solid, a good start, you have a lot of good portfolio pieces.

Here is my feedback (these are things you might want to examine, I'm leaving out the stuff I like).

- Can you Brand? - You're a designer, get a real logo in there. I can value someone with good knowledge of how to handle text formatting for html, but demonstrate your exploration of how you can brand.- I like the look feel of everything though; colors,spacing, grid, I'd just like a logo.

- Your copy - I love not being long winded too, but show some intrigue with your copy. This gets into branding, if you were facing a client would you tell them..."alright heres the plan on the homepage lets say 'this is my space on the internet' ", be more creative.

- Your portfolio section - I know there was probably alot of programming going into this section, but it's not as impressive as it could be. Maybe its that each project is a small little icon, maybe i want a description text when i hover. I know that the blur is a nice filter in Flash 8, but from a design direction I would just like things bigger and more impressive on this page. Hey, this is the landing page of your portfolio. This is the most important page of your site. This is the reason you have people visiting here. Knock their socks off.

- About Page - I feel like the pencil effect is a nice piece of programming, but its so small, I can't really have fun with it. Immediately when I saw it, I tried to go crazy with it and draw everywhere with it, but then was disappointed it was so small, and the pencil was always cut off at the middle. I'm not saying the only solution is to make it bigger, maybe there are other ways that would be possible as well.

Alright, thats my input. Good Site

I really like your site. I completely agree with krismeister. I feel that the best page is your about page where you can draw in the flash object. That must have taken some doing!

However I have had some problems viewing your portfolio page. When I click some of the links it comes back with an initialization error. Maybe this is just my computer? And I also wonder is it necessary to have flash on every page, such as your home page? Just an idea.

Anyway I think its a really good site and easy to look at. Well done.

Sorry about posting about the videos, I did not notice that in your post.

krismeister said almost everything there ... Just one thing ... IE7 displays the "click here to activate and use this control" which is real annoying to me ... There was a post here somewhere that showed how to remove that ... I'll look for it now and post it here ...

One little trick to work around the "Click to Activate and Use This Control" problem
(due to a plugin issue with microsoft)

Your embed code is:

Code: [ Select ]
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"
codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/s wflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
id="mars" align="middle" height="130" width="130">
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain">
<param name="movie" value="mars.swf">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff">
<embed src="mars.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff"
name="mars" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
align="center" height="130" width="130">
</object>
  1. <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"
  2. codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/s wflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
  3. id="mars" align="middle" height="130" width="130">
  4. <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain">
  5. <param name="movie" value="mars.swf">
  6. <param name="quality" value="high">
  7. <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff">
  8. <embed src="mars.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff"
  9. name="mars" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain"
  10. type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
  11. pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
  12. align="center" height="130" width="130">
  13. </object>

If you ceate a myprintln.js file that simply says:
Code: [ Select ]
// myprintln.js
function myprintln(s) { document.writeln(s); }
  1. // myprintln.js
  2. function myprintln(s) { document.writeln(s); }

and put this in the head of your file:

Code: [ Select ]
...yada yada yada...

 <script src="myprintln.js"></script>
 </head>
  1. ...yada yada yada...
  2.  <script src="myprintln.js"></script>
  3.  </head>

...and wrap your script like this:

Code: [ Select ]
<script>
myprintln('<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"');
myprintln('codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/c abs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"');
myprintln('id="mars" align="middle" height="130" width="130">');
myprintln('<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain">');
myprintln('<param name="movie" value="mars.swf">');
myprintln('<param name="quality" value="high">');
myprintln('<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff">');
myprintln('<embed src="mars.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff"');
myprintln('name="mars" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain"');
myprintln('type="application/x-shockwave-flash"');
myprintln('pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"' );
myprintln('align="center" height="130" width="130">');
myprintln('</object>');
</script>
  1. <script>
  2. myprintln('<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000"');
  3. myprintln('codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/c abs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"');
  4. myprintln('id="mars" align="middle" height="130" width="130">');
  5. myprintln('<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain">');
  6. myprintln('<param name="movie" value="mars.swf">');
  7. myprintln('<param name="quality" value="high">');
  8. myprintln('<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff">');
  9. myprintln('<embed src="mars.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff"');
  10. myprintln('name="mars" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain"');
  11. myprintln('type="application/x-shockwave-flash"');
  12. myprintln('pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"' );
  13. myprintln('align="center" height="130" width="130">');
  14. myprintln('</object>');
  15. </script>

...it will work around that problem

very nice color combination, easy to navigate and didnt take much time to load, but more content would help the site to look more attractive to visitors.

Thats kind of funny, I had more sections including tutorials, tips, and other stuff, and my teachers at school suggested I get rid of them and focus more on my portfolio pieces. so when you say more "content" are you meaning more portfolio pieces or what?

thanks for you input.
