SITE REVIEW: Website Auction Hub

Post June 25th, 2006, 2:09 pm

http://www.websiteauctionhub.com
This website is a mild mod of the basic php forum script with a resource section added that is a heavy mod of a php link exchange script.
Right now it lacks content but eventually I plan on making it a place where people can make a website using the resources section and than sell it on the forum section. Or buy a website and make it better by using the resources.
Please let me know if things look good in browsers other than IE. I spent a lot of time fussing with css to get the mods to work so there might be some problems.
Thanks a lot!

I added the ability to attach files to the posts. Some people have suggested putting somethign up about protecting the buyers and sellers on the site. I was thinking maybe some sort of escrow service... any suggestions?

Hi,

Your site loads and looks fine in Firefox. I like the colours, the site is very easy to navigate and is set out well. The load time is a bit slow for me, but overall I like the site.

Now you just need some members!

Thanks for the feedback! With FireFox, did you use Linux or Windoze? Also if you know of any good webmaster hangout places besides OZZU please let me know.

website is just fine in FireFox/Win32(XP) and in IE/Win32(XP)

the color scheme and header draw in nicely, softer grey color is easy on the eyes, and though phpBB is well known, I think this may be an ok use of it, especially since you are not using the standard colors.

Thanks, it was just a quick wy to get something where users coud talk to eachother and start auctions, I am planing on heavily modifying it to make it better for auctions.

Hi,

A couple of good webmaster sites are http://www.sitepoint.com and http://www.namepros.com. If you regsiter with them (if you haven't already) please put 'thepurplecow' as your referrer.

Thanks!

I'm not a huge fan of the portal / forum only sites, not sure why. When I see them I assume it's a quick knockoff to make a quick buck. It would be nicer if you could get a developed site that has all of the features a auction site should have.

The good part is you didn't bombard it with ads in unsavory places.

Hope this helps :)

I'm trying to make it sort of a hybrid... I have been working on adding auction features like quick bidding and bid history but those are just for members.
Also I started bloging to add original content and the resource setion is to take advantage of the great stuff that is aout there already.

site takes a while to load, isn't text scalable in MSIE (bad for accessibility), logo is good, theme can be interesting to some people, and background image comes straight out of sony.net !

using relative font sizes would be a huge improvement.
