Hello Friends. A brief history of http://www.aQuatell.com:

Went live Sep. 06

Started building backlinks and concentrating on SEO Jul. 07

Went from PR 0 in Jul. 07 to PR 3 in Sep. 07

Unique users growing at 40% per month over last three months

Sales aren't what I would expect based on my traffic.

I'm most interested in getting feedback on why somebody wouldn't buy from my website once they've arrived. Thanks very much for your time and honesty. Oh, one other thing that I need validated. It seems that the first time I try to visit my website from a computer that has never visited it before the web browser times out waiting for a reply from my server. On the second, third, fourth try it works each time. Can you please tell me if you experience this and if you have any suggestions. Thanks again.

it didn't time out on the first try - did take a while to load though. I'm on IE6 at the moment.

first thing I'd suggest is - make links where links seem logical. For instance on the orange header under the logo and words "we specialise in", you have a list of products that I fully expected to be clickable... I know you have a horizontal nav bar right under the header, but rather than clicking on 'products' and then looking for a water filter, I'd much rather be able to click on the line 'water filters' on the banner itself...............

I know it won't send your sales through the roof immediately, but it could be a first step.....................

The site took an incredibly long time to load for me, too. Long enough that I almost gave up.. and I'm sure most potential customers would, too. I'm not sure what the issue is.. maybe with your server.

It's a strange combination of graphic and text you have there in your header. I'm not sure why you would do it that way, and I guess it's ok, but you have a spelling error - it should be "that's", not "thats".

One other complaint is the links. I agree with Celandine that I expected the 'we specialize in' links to be clickable. Also, you need some rollover effects on the top-line graphic links.

Aside from those things, the graphics and the color scheme look really nice.

The website looks good, I don't have any issues with the aesthetics, apart from the lack of rollovers on the nav bar. You should make the headings under 'we specialise in' clickable, as people before me have said.

It did take a long time for me to load too, over 20 seconds in fact, which is a long time in the life of a web surfer. One thing you could do to make the website a tad speedier is to save the top banner as a .gif, like the stuff on the right, as the .jpg file is 167kb.

I have one question ... what's with the blue 4's before the orange writing down the page on the left?

How many buy compared to the ones browsing the site?
Maby people find your site by an accident due to high rating in a keyword that dosnt have to do with water purification/filters.
Or
you are outcompeted due to the competitors is offering better deals.
If Iam gonna buy something ranging from 200$- 800$ I will probebly check other sites too beacouse I whant the best price.
Wouldnt you?

anyway.. Iam youst guessing here.. maby your company is the best in the feild. and maby people mostly find your site beacouse they are genuinly intressed in water.. stuff.. :)

An other cool theory is that people dont like to shop these expensive stuff online.
At least I wouldnt order this from a company too far away, what if it works bad or the s*** is hard to install would the company genuine try to help out once they sold there product?

It is great to have a local store that you can go to and ask for help. Yes you got that telephone support and thats great but its easier to understand if they tell you irl usually.

My idea is

you put in a photo of youre self + your coworkers (if you got any and feel comfortable doing so)
this could give the site a more serriouse impression, since atm you dont know whos running the show. Maby the company will go bankrupt next week or it might be a freaking hoax? :?

If a face is shown, I think they will feel that your not trying to hide something. :o

Okay, first thing, please don't change the colour of my scroll bar ... If I wanted it changed I would've done it myself ... I like it like it is ... seriously ...

Then the W3C Validator found 224 errors on your "home" page alone ... That's a lot ... You can see them here ...

Like everyone else said ... "We specialise in" links need to be clickable ...

Then I think it's time to add some rollovers ... That woul make it better than it already is ... because it's a nice site IMO already and the rollovers would add a pretty nice touch ...

Then also, you could disable the link of the page that a user is on, for example if a user is on the "home" page, make the "home" link unclickable and in another colour (or rollover state) ... that way users won't redirect to the page that they are already on and will always know which page they are on ...

On the "home" page, there are 4 products on the right hand side (TOP SELLING R.O., TOP SELLING SOFTENER, TOP SELLING UV, TOP SELLING DISTILLER), but when I go to your "products" page there are only 3 products listed, what's up with that? Oh I only see it now ... after two further minutes ... Okay so IMO your "product list" is in the wrong place, I think it should be on the left hand side of the actual products ...

Then when I click on the "login" button it just tells me that it's coming soon ... that may be one of the reasons that people leave the site ... because when I "check out" an item I have to register, but I can't log in ... hmmm ... smells fishy ...

then on the "register" page, what is that IP address underneath "account details" ... ? I don't like it when people show me my IP address ... it makes me feel like they want to hack my computer, even though I know it would be a little tough with our work's firewall etc, but I also know it's not impossible ...

Still on the "register" page, I pressed the "submit" button with no fields filled in at all ... I got an error message (messages), which made me happy, then I just checked the "I agree to terms and conditions ..." checkbox and pressed the "submit" button again ... it went through ... Just make sure about that ... it's not a good thing if you don't have a customer's details ... it would make me feel insecure about buying from you ...

Hope ths helped ...

You have to fix the fact that to first get in the site it takes about 30 seconds to load. Actually, the first time I tried to get in it did not load at all. After I refreshed and a few more seconds passed, it loaded. If people are reaching your site from a search engine and It takes too long to load, they will not wait. They will go to the next site. Like everyone else said ... "We specialise in" links need to be clickable. It just looks like it should be. I love the look of it though. I think the Idea of a previous reply to put your picture with the pictures of employees is a great Idea. It will give people a warm fuzzy that you are not trying to jip them.

UVBoy - Your website needs to be all (or nearly all) viewable in ONE broswer window. Don't make the visitor have to scroll down. Most of the time, visitors won't scroll down to read or view the rest of your website. This goes back to the old saying "first impressions are important" so the first thing they see (before scrolling down) is what they will base their opinion on.

Also, You should have more product images viewable on your home page. This tells the visitor what you offer even before they start reading anything.

One more thing...make the "Aquatell logo a hyperlink to your homepage. Just make navigation easier.

Hope that helps!

Took over 30 secs to load in firefox and ie7. Not a great start! maybe lighten some of those background images. Other than that It's a nice looking site If I needed any of your products I would feel safe using your site. quite a niece market your trying to target though. I think that could well be the problem with your sales conversions.
