This is a local government website I've recently taken over. The Content Management System is very old so we will be building a new website over the next year.

I'm hoping you can offer ideas on how to improve the navigation and content so we get the new website right.

All ideas, comments and criticisms welcomed.

Thanks!

First of all welcome, seeing as you are new.

What I'd do with the navigation bar to the left is make the font larger, get rid of the overhang of the underline, either change the rollover colour or the background colour, as the colours clash a bit.

The logo at the top left would look better if it were to expand and consume all that blue space around it. The blue space on the top right seems out of place...

The text up the top (land, water, coast, air), I would center it.

You might want to bring the contact information up closer to the top, perhaps in the nav bar.

The Tukutuku at the bottom seems a part of the layout itself, when it's not. You might want to put that in the main content area (a bit of explanation about it too).

You should change the title of the pages, as all of them seem to be called 'Home'.

Why do you change the colour of the scrollbar? Why?

You have rollovers on the left hand side, but not on the right hand side ... Is there a reason for that ... Also thereis an image in the right hand bottom corner with an alt tag of "tukutuku" what is it for?

please check the w3c validator to fix your coding errors ... http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http% ... govt.nz%2F
Let's leave all our *plum* where it is and go live in the jungle ...

I noticed that the “Home” bar is not flushed with the top menu – land, water, coast etc…
The left menu box (green) is not flushed with the logo ..
Although it’s not essential but without a cleaner layout it kind of looks a little disorganized …
Color layout may not be optimal ..

Try to go with light blue tones …marine colors etc.

Very nice. I particularly like the 100% width/height layout.
I think you need to reconsider the colors
