How about some more detals? Are you talking about sniffing IM traffic? When you say network, do you mean a LAN or over the net? How do you know the sniffer exists?

I am basically talking about the yahoo Sniffer. When number of computers are connected together through a LAN. Then in that network if this software, "Yahoo Sniffer" is used on any of the computers then the IMs of every the person in that network, can be traced. Hence i want a help from your side in blocking the use of this software in a LAN.

I searched it on Google and now I understand what the software does. I saw a list of the limitations of the software and one of them is:
Does not trace packets if you use an HTTP proxy to connect to yahoo.

So, my answer is, use a proxy or an ssh tunnel to connect to yahoo.

That doesn't block the use of it but it avoids your traffic from being sniffed.

Out of curiosity, does the LAN belong to you?
