Although this is nice, i don't see them changing over to this as their main site. For a start, this have been around for ages. If you do a search from the home page, up the top for a long long time there has been a link called "search home", this is the exact design, and has been for ages.

I agree, Yahoo is not a Search Engine, it is more of a Search Portal, so they will most likely keep the homepage design as it is.

Yahoo and MSN seem more of straight SEO to rank high. I know that Yahoo has the beta popularity bar out there. Right now, I do straight SEO with a good description tag and it seems to work well.

The new beta is now live...

I agree with Votefunk...yahoo is like taking candy from a baby!

It responeds to all the basics of seo...although I notice something interesting. I have a site that has no outgoing links and only a few incomming links...it's a small site with only about 10 pages...they all link together from the menus and the page footers...it ranks #4 for the chosen keyphrase...which is moderatley competitive...could be a soft spot in the algo or maybe a mom and pop type filter opposite of google authority site thingy. The site is not in the top 1000 for the same keyphrase in google :(
