For all of you computer gurus, my question is probably so stupid as to elicit laughter. But, here it is:
when I go to my yahoo.com homepage, I notice all kinds of sites on the lower left screen being accessed. And it takes a long time to get to email, etc. Just tell me if this is normal, or is there something I can do to get past all of that crud.
Thanks.

They may be adverts being fetched from ad-servers.
I would suggest using firefox and getting the adblock plugin. Yahoo is really bloated with adverts.

I got nothing against sites using adverts for revenue and i dont usually block adverts. But when they start getting in the way of my browsing or setting cookies i block them straight away.

As long as the adblock plugin doesn't block Google Adsense or Yahoo Publisher ads ;-)
