Two things.

Does anyone know how to turn on auto complete in Outlook? (not Express).

It's driving me nutty.

What's also bugging me is that when the auto complete is working - i cant access the list anywhere to delete names - say I send one email to someone it stores that address somewhere (not in the address book) and whenever I start another similar name it brings that one up first ---- is there somewhere i can access them to delete them.

Oh this is so frustrating!

Thanks for any help anyone has!

This should be your answer to the second question:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=289975

Not sure about your autocomplete question. You may find the answer in this great resource (I couldn't, but lot's of other useful stuff there) :

i absolutely LOVE you for the first link im still sorting through the second one. it seems completely random which names it works for and which it doesnt which baffles me completely.

i searched microsoft but didnt find anything as good as that link, maybe my search terms were a bit off track not sure.

*smiles

1st google search: outlook+autocomplete

Fourth result: http://www.tech-recipes.com/modules.php ... &rx_id=339 (I followed the workaround link there)

2nd google search: "turn on"+outlook+autocomplete
5th result: http://www.kayodeok.btinternet.co.uk/fa ... khowto.htm

"Google is my friend" -- the trick is knowing a bit about how to do some advanced google searches and chosing the words you use carefully.

Added note (deep dark secrets) -- I'd say about 30% of the answers I provide here are google results. 40% are stuff I've found from google in the past, and the rest I just had to work through and figure out on my own.

I hate it when you know the info you want is out there but its sometimes hard to get it. Im still trying to figure out why autocomplete wont work for some names i use all the time *smacks head* I could type them in or click the TO button but for the amount of emails i send daily it takes sooo long

not to worry i will figure it out ;)

Try "automatic name checking"+outlook (3rd google search)

1st result: http://www.fais-ihs.org/ven/community/t ... ecking.htm

Is that what you needed? It sorta looks like it.

yep thats what i want it to do i think i figured it out. *somehow* my address cache has been cleared (?) so basically I have to send an email to that person manually (or by selecting them from the address book) and then the next time i want to send them email it works now.

Im not sure how the saved email cache got cleared but i think this is what the problem is.

Thanks SO SO SO much for your help!

First, to turn this function on or off, go to: Tools, Option, Preferences Tab, E-Mail Options, Advanced E-Mail Aptions and check the box next to "Suggest names when completing To:, Cc:, and Bcc: fields.

This info. isn't stored in your Contact folder.  It is stored in a separate system file.  That file can be opened using an editor called Owtlook found at http://www.dcs-imaging.com/products.htm

In Outlook (not express) Click on Tools then options. On your Preferences tab (2007) you will see a button that says E-Mail Options. Click it. Look for hte button that shows "Advanced Email Options..." and click it. At the bottom of that pop up screen you will see the send options such as suggestiong of name, and automatic name checking
