Back in the old days of OZZU V1 there used to be forums that no longer exist in V2. There were topics category forums like photography, digital art, flash, etc., as well as corresponding competitions that came up from time to time. Back then I was using Terragen (a landscape generation program) frequently to create digital landscape images which was something I enjoyed. Today I came across some old files in an older hard drive that showed I still had files from the original version of Terragen 0.9.43 which was free at the time, and I continued using it until it got to 2.0 and was no longer free. I stopped checking for updates when it did, but when I saw the name Terragen in my files, I remembered it, so I checked and sure enough it still exists! And there is still a free version!

Terragen is still created, owned and operated by Planetside. It is currently up to Version 4. And guess what? There is a free version! Like anything else these days there's also a Pro version that offers additional features such as animation. Back when it was first starting I think I used like 3 separate additional programs like Terranim as one of them to add animation. I downloaded and installed it. Here's the link for the free download. (btw I am in no way associated with Terragen or Planetside. It's just a program I used to love using). Terragen 4 free download

What I was surprised to discover after installing it was this version is 100% different than what I remember using. To show what I mean here's a screen shot.

Terragen 4 Screen Shot

This looked nothing like the program I was used to in it's earliest stages, so looks like I'm going to have to "relearn"? this one from scratch. Fortunately there's still a ton of tutorials and a huge support community to fall back on! And if you want some motivation to delve into this program, check out the image gallery of thing you can create with it. Image Gallery. My ultimate message -- don't rely on AI to do everything for you. Create things that you want to create and can create!

I experimented with Unreal Engine's editor for a bit and your screenshot reminded of the world you see there when first starting up a scene to start doing something. Clearly they have different applications and it looks like Terragen is more procedural and ray tracing with accuracy while Unreal is more for real time performance -- however I bet you can create many of these scenes with that engine too, and then run a character though the environment or create a short movie. — Brian Wozeniak
