In less than two weeks, Ozzu will be undergoing major changes. Everything about Ozzu has been re-built from the ground up. The PHPBB3 back-end that currently powers Ozzu will be no more. The front-end design which gives you the look and feel that you currently see will be no more. Nearly everything is changing.
We are migrating the data from the old system to the new which means that if you currently have an Ozzu account, you will still have an Ozzu account. Many of the threads and posts will come over as well, but depending on where they are located currently on Ozzu they may be imported in different ways on the new system. Some content may not be imported at all.
Here are some notes about the release:
- Majority of public content will be migrated.
- Majority of private content will not be migrated, including any sort of moderator discussions.
- Private Message system is being scrapped. These messages will not be imported.
- The new system will still have a light/dark theme, with light being the default.
- The new system will respect dark mode as supported by some browsers and operating systems.
- The old system used post count as the most important metric; the new system will be using reputation based on votes.
- A restriction on the old system was that a post had to fit in a single category; the new system uses up to 5 tags on a post.
- We have attempted to greatly simplify the user interface to make it easier to understand.
- Current avatars will not be migrated over with user accounts.
- New system will check for Gravatars, and fall back to an avatar unique to your username. You can upload a new avatar on the new system.
- The old system relied mostly on moderators to maintain a healthy community. The new system uses everyone in the community.
- Every member can work together to improve the content and keep the community safe and spam-free.
- The Ozzu Market will not be released yet, that will come in a future update.
- With the new system you can now log in via your favorite social media website.
- You can earn badges on the new system for achieving certain goals.
- BBcode which powered formatting on the old system is scrapped. The new system will use markdown.
- Questions, posts, threads, replies, etc now use a revisioning system to keep track of changes in content.
- The new system has 5 different post types which may format the content differently including Q/A, Wiki, Code Snippets, Discussion, Meta.
- Our new system will be GDPR compliant and no longer restrict which countries can participate at Ozzu.
- Quite a few tools to help to keep Ozzu working strong. All users can gain access to these areas as their reputation increases.
