GoDaddy mail servers blocked by AHBL.org
"In response to problem one of my company's customers was having with email to us being rejected, I did some research based on information from a copy of the NDR he sent to me. His company's website is hosted with GoDaddy and that's where email was originating from. After some very fast research, it was a no-brainer to determine that GoDaddy is seriously blocked by AHBL."

Will HTML5 replace Flash?
"Do you think HTML 5 will soon replace most content created in Flash? It does have some advantages like being indexable by search engines and no need for a browser with a plugin (that wants to upgrade every few months)."

HTTP Auth a Directory via an Existing Users Table in a Database
"I wish to tie my user accounts into HTTP for a specific directory of my website and normally that wouldn't be too much of a problem, because I could either edit the htpasswd file or use mod_auth_mysql. However, the passwords are hashed using SHA1 and a salt. How can I password protect an entire directory at server level using an existing MySQL user account table?"

Clearwater Highschool Replaces Numerous Books, with Kindles
"I was watching the news this morning and discovered that Clearwater Highschool has done away with numerous text books and replaced them with, Amazon Kindles. Apparently they're the first school to try this as well. More than 2000 students were given Kindles in place of the majority of their text books this year. From what I understand students don't have to buy the Kindles themselves, but they do have to pay for them if they're lost or stolen just like they would the text books."

WHOIS 503: Unable to service request due to high volume
"Has anyone been getting an unusually high number of "ERROR 503: Unable to service request due to high volume." messages from WHOIS queries lately? I first started seeing this error a few days ago when I was using a forum's WHOIS button. I figured that since I'm not the only person who can use that button maybe a lot of us were using it at the same time and the WHOIS server was telling us to slow down, so I forgot about it. I've been getting the same message today, from different locations though."

Consumer Watchdog's NY Times Square Anti-Google Ad
"The 540 square foot billboard ad depicts Google's Eric Schmidt as a nefarious looking ice cream truck driver giving away free ice cream to kids before crushing their little worlds by bringing up gems such as the "sports" websites daddy looks at all day while working and mommy Googling old boyfriends. I'm not sure whether to laugh, or cry."

iPhone: Landscape Menu, Portrait Content
"I was thinking of doing a version of a site for an iPhone that makes use of the onorientationchange event to switch between content and menu screens. When the phone is held in portrait mode, it will display site content and only site content. If the iPhone is turned either clockwise or counter-clockwise (to account for left and right handed people) then the content will hide and the menu will show."

Antivirus Software Has Been #1 at Download.com for Years
"Today I realized that the number one most downloaded software on download.com has been some form of antivirus software for at least 6 years that I can remember off the top of my head. Antivirus downloads apparently account for somewhere around 150 million downloads every year from download.com alone. And that's just for the popular ones. Over the last 6 years that's nearly a billion downloads for antivirus software. If antivirus software was doing what it is intended to do, shouldn't that number be going down by now, rather than staying constant for the better part of a decade ?"

Hackers Sending Microsoft Their Virus Code Accidentally
"Apparently there's a lot of hackers out there who aren't as bright as they'd like to believe. Microsoft has enough instances of virus writers sending their virus code along with their crash reports right to Microsoft when they crash their own systems, that one of their senior software architects, Rocky Heckman, thought it was worth mentioning at a recent conference."

Chip Maker Intel to Aquire Security Firm McAfee
"I'm not sure who will be happier and about what, the Intel developers about having security experts around, or the McAfee developers about having a say in the chip making process. Through buying McAfee, a leading security technology firm, Intel intends to build security features into its microprocessors which go into products such as laptops and phones."
